How to find the VA for you
Looking to find the one?! The perfect VA that matches your skillset, mindset and vibe? You've come to the right place.
Read on to see my top tips for helping you find the right VA, the first time round.
My first golden nugget would be not to rush into choosing your VA. There's nothing worse than getting started with a freelancer and then finding that things aren't going well and you need to sack them off.
Do some research including checking out their website, reviews and socials. They may say all the right things but they should back up their experience with testimonials, case studies or feedback.
Next I would look for professional association, whilst there is no compulsory professional body for virtual assistants there are a few associations in the UK such as the Society of Virtual Assistants. Most of these regulators will only accept members that are insured, ICO registered and have the appropriate policies in place.
If they aren't a member of a professional association then check they have the basics such as insurance and ICO registration.
If you're happy they're legit and have all the legal bits in place, the next step is to speak to them! Most VA's offer a discovery call or initial chat. This isn't an opportunity to grill them like you would in a job interview - remember you are using a freelancer and not hiring an employee. This is the opportunity to discuss your business, your requirements and find out more about the VA.
Think about how the conversation went afterwards - did you get a good vibe from them or do you have a pang of concern? I'm definitely a huge advocate of trusting your gut or intuition.
Finally before you go on to work together, make sure you are happy with their terms of business. Look out for 'get out' clauses if you're signing a contract for retained hours. Not everything goes to plan and you want to make sure it's not going to be a pain to stop working together if the time ever comes.
